As a “diversity” practitioner since 2002, I’ve worked with schools, non-profits, and individuals that have stated their commitment to equity. And, in the midst of ongoing anti-Blackness, organizations releasing “statements” are boring to me.

What are you going to DO, put in place, and how will you be held accountable?

You must say and write “Black”, “institutional racism”, “white supremacy”, “systemic oppression”...if you don’t name it, you cant/won’t address it.

Our children may be better off NOT being in classrooms where teachers continue to be unskilled, and often unwilling, to acknowledge, understand, and respond to racism and oppression in society and in schools. Good intentions do not cancel out systemic -‘isms.

-Examine your data with a critical eye

-Adopt non-optional anti-racist curricula and Ethnic studies

-Fund and offer ongoing professional development for all adults in your school and organizations (you can hire me to do this).

These actions demonstrate your commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. This is how you love people.

You DO. You ACT. You put your money and time into bringing about change.
